Job Description And Duties

Be a part of our innovative Sacramento-based engineering team at Caltrans, where we are driving the advancement of transportation asset management. This role offers an opportunity to develop and implement new practices, tools, and strategies, while working on interdisciplinary teams. We are seeking a motivated engineer with strong analytical and communication skills, along with experience in engineering data analysis. This position exposes you to various department functions, paving the way for career growth. You will play an integral role in integrating asset management by conducting analyses, collaborating with experts, and providing guidance. Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Special Requirements

Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted addressing all factors listed below. Two pages is the maximum acceptable length. Please provide responses to the following four questions. Include years of experience, level of expertise, and cite specific examples that best demonstrate qualifications.

  • Describe your experience and knowledge of asset management related principles and how you have applied them in previous roles.
  • Elaborate on your experience conducting engineering analyses to evaluate project benefits, performance, or other relevant metrics that inform decision-making.
  • Describe your experience using software tools, such as advanced spreadsheet functions, numerical analysis software, database systems, geographic information systems, scripting/programming languages, or other analytical tools, for the analysis and presentation of engineering data.
  • Describe your experience in preparing, writing, or editing engineering reports, presentations, and other communication materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.
