Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, analysis, and design of drainage, hydraulic, hydrologic, and stormwater management systems for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and oversee large-scale transportation projects from preliminary engineering through final design, ensuring compliance with client objectives, project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Prepare and review drainage reports, hydraulic studies, and stormwater management documentation.
  • Perform hydraulic and hydrologic modeling using HEC-RAS, GeoHEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, WinTR-55, HydroCAD, and PondPack.
  • Review engineering designs and deliverables for compliance with regulations and firm standards; sign and seal engineering documents as required.
  • Lead and mentor engineering staff; supervise design tasks from preliminary through final design delivery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support business development efforts.

Job Description

With general direction, leads and develops transportation-related engineering designs of moderate to high complexity for highway, roadway, and other infrastructure projects to meet client requirements. This role offers the opportunity to support a wide variety of transportation design projects across the country while serving as a technical leader in drainage, hydraulics, hydrology, and stormwater management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, analysis, and design of drainage, hydraulic, hydrologic, and stormwater management systems for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and oversee large-scale transportation projects from preliminary engineering through final design, ensuring compliance with client objectives, project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Prepare and review Erosion and Sediment Control Plans, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit submissions, drainage reports, hydraulic studies, and stormwater management documentation.
  • Perform and oversee hydraulic and hydrologic modeling using industry-standard software, including HEC-RAS, GeoHEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, WinTR-55, HydroCAD, and PondPack.
  • Utilize advanced computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices in support of transportation projects.
  • Review engineering designs and deliverables for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as firm standards and quality requirements.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents and provide final design approvals, as required.
  • Conduct site reviews, field investigations, construction inspections, and engineering studies to verify design assumptions and project requirements.
  • Update design criteria and project requirements based on regulatory changes, site conditions, and client needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, clients, agencies, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, reviewing technical approaches, participating in interviews, and assisting in responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Meet with existing and prospective clients to understand project needs and build long-term relationships.
  • Contribute to the firm's technical knowledge management initiatives through white papers, technical documentation, presentations, and publication of technical papers.
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, professional organizations, and technical events to enhance the visibility of the firm's services and expertise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Leadership & Staff Development
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and quality oversight to engineering and design staff.
  • Mentor, train, and develop junior engineers and designers, helping to expand the firm's technical bench strength and future leadership pipeline.
  • Lead project tasks and manage design staff from preliminary engineering through final design delivery.
  • Foster professional growth through coaching, knowledge sharing, and hands‑on project development opportunities.
  • May supervise and direct the work of junior engineers and technical staff.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 12 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong background in drainage and hydraulic analysis, and stormwater management design. Experience preparing Erosion and Sediment Control and National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit submissions.

Experience working on PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike project teams. Working knowledge of submission requirements for PennDOT and PTC projects. Experience in task management leading design staff from preliminary design through final design.

Expert knowledge of Hydraulic, Hydrology, and Stormwater analysis and design practices. Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
