Job summary

  • Prepare responses by written letter and emails for requests for changes, transfers, reassignments, or disposal of some or all portions of contract work.
  • Supervising staff and field visits to projects may be required.

The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is accepting applications for Transportation Engineer 3 (Construction Engineering) position in our Division of Construction Operations (DCO), in the Central Construction Unit at our Headquarters in Newington, Connecticut.

POSITION DETAILS:
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday, first shift
  • Location: Newington, CT
  • Hybrid (in office/telework) available following successful completion of the initial training/review period.
THE ROLE:

The focus of this position will be related to leading staff in the alternative contracting efforts including CMAR and CMGC acting as a project manager to facilitate the development and delivery of the alternative project delivery methods of Construction.

The position will coordinate the development and maintenance of process manuals for Department personnel for administering CMAR and CMGC projects. Among the expected assigned duties is to gather National Best Practices and technological advances related to construction of CMAR and CMGC projects to train in-house staff and develop training guidelines and policy and procedures.

Position Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide recommendations of policies and standards to Management
  • Administration, monitoring and oversight of Consultant Engineering firm
  • Develop and maintain cost data relative to design, construction, project budgets, funding sources and expenditures
  • Prepare responses by written letter and emails for requests for changes, transfers, reassignments, or disposal of some or all portions of contract work
  • Report writing and researching and preparing administrative reports
  • Supervising staff
  • Field visits to projects may be required
  • Serve as technical advisor for construction projects
  • Manage records and files
  • Review contracts for conformance with latest specification documents
  • Collect, record, prepare and analyze data pertaining to plans and specification requirements
  • Act as liaison with operating units, agencies, consultant staff and other outside officials
  • Assist the Districts with monitoring and addressing concerns with Contract requirements and research to prepare administrative reports
  • Perform related duties as required
  • These duties include becoming acquainted with current office procedures and being familiar with electronic methods like Office 365, SharePoint and Compass for project tracking and delivery.
ABOUT THE DIVISION:

The DCO is the central construction engineering and administrative office for the Office of Construction which administers construction projects statewide from design to final acceptance. The Central Construction Unit is responsible for Alternative Contracting.

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management and three (3) years of experience in transportation construction engineering.

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the working level in a professional transportation construction engineering capacity.

NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Transportation Engineer 2 (Construction Engineering).
