Official Position Description:

This role acts as a staff specialist, developing and evaluating plans and criteria for various projects, assessing feasibility and soundness of designs, and supervising teams of engineers, technicians, and support staff by assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and evaluating work. Responsibilities include developing in-house plans, reviewing proposals for construction projects like highway rehabilitation, new construction, bridge replacements, and roadway relocations, using CAD tools to prepare and interpret plans, and coordinating design work with survey teams. The role involves ensuring accurate and timely updates to management information systems, signing plans as a registered professional engineer, attending field reviews, preparing design revisions, and making recommendations for repairs or replacements. The position also involves instructing staff in CAD techniques, analysis, and coordination, advising external agencies, testifying in court, representing the department at conferences, and traveling within the district for project reviews. Candidates must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Ohio State Board of Registration or have equivalent qualifications, with relevant experience in engineering leadership or research, and a valid driver’s license if operating state vehicles.
