Job summary

Ohio Department of Transportation in Ashland is seeking a Transportation Engineer 1 or Transportation Engineer 2. The selected candidate will begin within the classification they meet minimum qualifications and will be placed accordingly.

You will work with dedicated engineers, receive comprehensive training, and participate in structured, hands-on transportation projects as part of a strong professional program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with EIT exam eligibility or equivalent registered by the state board.
• For TE2: EIT or PE track, plus 2 years engineering experience or equivalent substitution allowed by job rules.
• Experience requirements may be substituted with the minimum class qualifications if needed.

Responsibilities

• Assists in civil engineering projects under supervision of senior engineers.
• Work alongside ODOT professional engineers to gain transportation experience.
• Participate in three core civil engineering disciplines as part of the program.
• Benefit from an orderly onboarding, training, and hands-on field exposure.

Qualifications

Transportation Engineer 1

Bachelor's degree in engineering; Accepted for Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT exam) by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.

Transportation Engineer 2

Valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 1, 85641.

• Or Bachelor's degree in engineering; valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 yrs. engineering related experience.
• Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
