Job summary

The North Dakota Department of Transportation is seeking Transportation Engineers at multiple levels to oversee small to large construction projects across Western North Dakota. Positions may be based in Williston, Dickinson, Minot, or Bismarck and require travel and occasional overnight stays.

Salaries range from $5,403 to $7,243 per month with DOE, and applicants must have a civil engineering degree, FE exam eligibility, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or applicable engineering degree.
  • Four years of professional-level engineering work experience (Engineer III).
  • Two years of professional-level engineering work experience (Engineer II).
  • Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
  • Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage construction projects, monitor contractor operations and assure project is built according to the plans and specs.
  • Design projects and prepare plan documents for district designed projects.
  • Inspect large projects, fill in for project engineer in their absence, bridge inspections, preliminary surveys, and materials testing.

Williston District, Construction Section, Western ND

This position will travel throughout Western North Dakota and be based out Williston, Dickinson, Minot, or Bismarck District office. Travel and overnight stays for the week may be required of the position. On-site work in the summer months could be in any one of the four districts listed.

As a Transportation Engineer in our Williston District, you will manage small and medium construction projects and be the main inspector on large projects. The ideal person for this position will be a problem solver with excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Previous experience in preparing environmental documents and construction plans is a plus. Primary duties associated with this position are:

In this role, you will manage construction projects, monitor contractor operations and assure project is built according to the plans and specs. You will also be responsible for designing projects and preparing plan documents for district designed projects.

Other duties include large project inspection, filling in for project engineer in their absence, bridge inspections, preliminary surveys, bridge deck evaluations, construction survey and materials testing, as well as other miscellaneous job duties.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or other applicable engineering degree, and
  • Two years of professional-level engineering work experience, and
  • Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and
  • Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.

Transportation Engineer I:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or other applicable engineering degree, and
  • Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and
  • Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.
