Qualifications

The Town of Brookline is seeking a dynamic and analytical Transportation Engineer to help design and manage safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems in a thriving urban environment. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Transportation, this professional role is responsible for improving traffic operations, overseeing signal timing and signage, and leading data-driven projects that enhance pedestrian and vehicular mobility throughout the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, parking systems, and signal operations.
  • Lead data collection efforts and transform findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Oversee signage and pavement marking inventories using GIS.
  • Evaluate traffic calming and safety improvement strategies for neighborhoods and developments.
  • Present engineering reports and recommendations to the Transportation Board and community stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Town boards, developers, and the public on transportation-related projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in municipal or transportation engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) and eligibility for PE license.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic engineering principles, signal systems, and relevant state/federal standards.
  • Experience with traffic modeling and GIS tools a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
