Job summary

The Mannik & Smith Group (MSG) is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join our Mansfield, OH team. This junior to mid-level role offers diverse roadway and aviation project work and mentorship from senior engineers.

The position includes participation in Blueprint, our early career leadership program, focusing on professional development, business acumen, and project delivery. Over six months, you’ll engage in curriculum, case studies, simulations, and role-play covering economics,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • FE exam (NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering) completed.
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer.
  • Familiarity with ODOT Design Standards.
  • Detail-oriented with problem-solving mindset and willingness to grow in technical and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and develop transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Support senior engineers in preparing transportation design plans in a 3D environment.
  • Perform and review design calculations for accuracy and standards compliance.
  • Contribute to design packages: roadway geometry, drainage, grading, and plan prep.
  • Assist with feasibility studies, permitting, and cost estimating.
  • Support aviation projects: runway and airfield design and analysis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior to mid-level engineer to work on a diverse range of roadway and aviation projects while learning from experienced professionals and building a rewarding career in transportation engineering.

Key Responsibilities
What You'll Do
  • As a Transportation Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, analyzing, and developing transportation infrastructure projects that improve how communities move and connect. You will:
  • Support senior engineers and project managers in preparing transportation design plans for state, municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential projects — all within a 3D digital environment.
  • Perform and review design calculations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Contribute to the development of design packages, including roadway geometry, drainage, grading, and plan preparation.
  • Assist with early project phases, including feasibility studies, permitting, and cost estimating.
  • Support aviation projects, contributing to runway and airfield design and analysis.
Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
  • Experience working with OpenRoads Designer
  • Familiarity with ODOT Design Standards
  • A strong attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and eagerness to grow your technical and project management skills
