Job summary

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) in Mansfield, OH is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join our Transportation team.

This role offers a diverse range of roadway and aviation projects and a path to grow from junior to mid-level engineer under experienced professionals. You’ll participate in Blueprint, our early career leadership program, with six months of hands-on curriculum covering professional development, project delivery, and leadership fundamentals, ending with a capstone to map

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Experience working with OpenRoads Designer.
  • Familiarity with ODOT Design Standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to grow technical and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and develop transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Support senior engineers and project managers in preparing design plans.
  • Perform and review design calculations for accuracy and standards compliance.
  • Develop design packages including roadway geometry, drainage, and plan prep.
  • Assist with early project phases like feasibility studies, permitting, and cost estimating.
  • Support aviation projects including runway and airfield design and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • As a Transportation Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, analyzing, and developing transportation infrastructure projects that improve how communities move and connect. You will:
  • Support senior engineers and project managers in preparing transportation design plans for state, municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential projects — all within a 3D digital environment.
  • Perform and review design calculations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Contribute to the development of design packages, including roadway geometry, drainage, grading, and plan preparation.
  • Assist with early project phases, including feasibility studies, permitting, and cost estimating.
  • Support aviation projects, contributing to runway and airfield design and analysis.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
  • Experience working with OpenRoads Designer
  • Familiarity with ODOT Design Standards
  • A strong attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and eagerness to grow your technical and project management skills

The base salary range for this role is indicated in the posting. This range reflects the company’s good faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
