Job summary

Primary Responsibilities

HDR's Transportation Engineer will: serve as an assistant project manager or task leader for transportation engineering projects of various sizes and complexity, coordinating the work of the design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project and coordinating with subconsultants and clients to keep projects on schedule and within budget; prepare or review scopes, budgets, and schedules; participate in interviews and presentations for new pursuits; prepare, design, or produce elements of contract plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation-related civil engineering projects using state, county, and city or other applicable standards, including Roadway Sections, Intersection Layout, Interchange Layout, Horizontal and Vertical Alignment, Right of Way Plans, Temporary Erosion Control Plans, Site Preparation Plans, Transportation Profiles, Retaining Wall Plans, Drainage Plans and Profiles, Utility Plans, Paving, Pavement Marking Plans, Signing Plans, and Traffic Control Plans; prepare design documentation, calculations, design reports, and technical memorandums that document design decisions; prepare design variations or exceptions from applicable standards; work closely with the Area Manager, Transportation Business Group Manager, Transportation Program Manager, Section Managers, and multiple Project Managers for project reviews; implement project quality plans; and review work of and mentor junior engineers and technical staff as needed.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 4 years of experience in transportation engineering.
• Required experience must include experience in: street/arterial roadways; urban and rural highway interchanges; intersection design; transportation planning; preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout, and CAD base alignment plans; preparation of plan layouts and exhibits; MicroStation; AutoCAD Civil 3D; OpenRoads; Geopak; and CAD design software.
• Must hold Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or must have passed Principles and Practice of Engineering examination.
