Job summary

The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Dallas, Texas, is seeking a Transportation Engineer to design and analyze roadway and transit systems, ensuring safety and efficiency. Job description

The Transportation Engineer plays a key role in HDR’s Transportation Business Group, designing and analyzing roadway, street, and transit systems to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a key member of a design team in preparation of the following elements of roadway, street and/or highway design using local (state, county or city) or AASHTO standards: horizontal and vertical alignment, intersection layout and sight distance determination, interchange layout, roadway drainage, and right‑of‑way plans
  • Work with a team as a project manager or task leader for the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates for projects of various sizes and complexity
  • Produce plans including roadway sections, alignment/right‑of‑way plans, temporary erosion control plans, site preparation plans, roadway profiles, drainage plans and profiles, utility plans (water & sewer), paving, pavement marking plans, signing plans, and traffic control plans
  • Manage day‑to‑day communication with the client, support and advise junior engineers and technical staff, write reports and technical memos, coordinate with sub‑consultants, keep projects on schedule and within budget, and keep clients satisfied
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • PE required and, if registered as a PE in another state, the candidate must gain Texas reciprocity within 6 months
  • 5 years’ experience in highway design and/or municipal roadway design
  • 3D corridor modeling experience (preferably with Bentley OpenRoads Designer)
Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer PE or P.Eng)
  • Hands‑on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3D
  • MS Office knowledge
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture is a must
