Job summary

ClearSky Health is seeking a Transportation Driver to transport patients and equipment to and from appointments, clinics, nursing facilities, or hospitals using hospital-owned vehicles. The role emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and effective communication with hospital staff.

The driver will inspect vehicles, assist with patient transfers, comply with PPE and infection prevention standards, and report any changes in patient condition or vehicle issues.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Six months van transport experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients in a safe and professional manner.
  • Ensures vehicles are clean and in working order, cleaning interior between patients.
  • Communicates with hospital staff to receive data and instructions.
  • Inspects vehicle prior to daily use for safety and comfort.
  • Assists with transferring and balancing patients and ensures comfort.
  • Follows patient safety and vehicle safety requirements and PPE protocols.
  • Notifies staff regarding changes in patient condition or behavior.
  • May work during inclement weather and staffing emergencies.
  • Maintains safety for patients, visitors, and staff and adheres to infection prevention standards.
  • Maintains regular attendance and completes required trainings.
  • Performs other duties to support organizational effectiveness.

The Transportation Driver is responsible for transporting patients and/or equipment to and from various outside appointments, clinics, nursing facilities, hospitals, or other ancillary locations via hospital-owned vehicle. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.

Essential Functions:
  • Transports patients in a safe and professional manner
  • Assures vehicles are clean and in working order. Responsible for cleaning of inside of van utilizing appropriate chemicals between patients.
  • Communicates with various hospital staff in order to receive relevant data and instructions.
  • Inspects vehicle prior to daily vehicle usage for safe and comfortable patient transport. Reports vehicle concerns timely.
  • Assists with transferring and balancing patients. Ensures patients’ physical and overall comfort.
  • Follows all patient safety and vehicle safety requirements. Responsible for knowing what PPE to apply to patient and driver prior to transport.
  • Notifies proper staff regarding changes in condition or behavior of patient.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
  • Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
  • Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
  • Completed required trainings, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Minimum Job Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic Life Support card required.
  • Six months van transport experience preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:

  • Must maintain acceptable driving record, current class specific driver’s license, and insurability.
  • Driving record must meet the standards of the Transportation Policy.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates proficiency using the machines, tools, equipment and/or work aids appropriate for the position.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to maintain quality, Infection Prevention, and safety standards.
  • Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, compassionate and understanding.
Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift:
  • A significant amount of sitting, driving, and reaching, often for prolonged periods of time.
  • Both gross and precise motor functions.
  • Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
  • Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to hear overhead pages.
