A local transportation service provider is seeking a Transportation Driver in Westland, Michigan. The chosen candidate will be responsible for transporting program participants and delivering medical supplies. Duties include assisting individuals with special mobility needs, maintaining the vehicle, and ensuring safety during transport. Qualifications

  • Valid unrestricted Michigan CDL license – Class A or B with Passenger endorsement.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Experience in transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
  • Ability to lift or carry 50 pounds or more and perform heavy physical effort.
  • Medical clearance for communicable diseases and up-to-date immunizations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Transports program participants to and from the program site or other assigned areas.
  • Assists program participants to and from the vehicle safely.
  • Participates in scheduled education programs and staff meetings.
  • Utilizes safe body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Secures wheelchairs and safety belts for wheelchair participants.
  • Responsible for delivery of medication (average 125 meds/supplements per day).
  • Cleans and maintains the bus as required.

Job description

Transportation Driver – PACE Southeast Michigan

Under general supervision, the Transportation Driver performs activities related to the transportation of program participants and medical supplies to and from the program site and other facilities as directed.

Specific Duties and Functions
  • Maintains established departmental and system policies and procedures and objectives, including but not limited to:
    • Quality Assurance Program
    • Safety Environmental
    • Infection Control Standards
  • Transports program participants to and from the program site or other assigned areas.
  • Assists program participants to and from the vehicle, to the participants' residence or the center in a safe manner, using appropriate assistive devices as necessary.
  • Participates in all scheduled education programs, in‑services, or staff meetings as directed.
  • Utilizes safe and appropriate body mechanics and transfer techniques when providing transportation services to program participants.
  • Secures wheelchairs and safety belts for wheelchair participants.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary, assigned or requested by the transportation supervisor or manager.
  • Additional duties include:
    • Maintenance of the bus (adding oil, brake fluid, windshield wiper fluid, transmission fluid, putting air in tires, charging battery, fueling, and arranging repairs).
    • Cleaning of the bus, including extermination and disinfection after contamination.
  • Responsible for delivery of medication (average 125 meds/supplements per day).
  • Drivers are held responsible if these items are not delivered.
  • After a participant’s death, drivers are responsible for picking up any items owned by PACE or items the family chooses to donate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Valid unrestricted Michigan CDL license – Class A or B with Passenger endorsement and acceptable driving record.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Capability and experience in transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
  • Ability to lift or carry 50 pounds or more and perform heavy physical effort.
  • Pass standardized competencies approved by CMS before work.
  • Medical clearance for communicable diseases and up‑to‑date immunizations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
  • Successful completion of post‑offer pre‑employment background check and health screening (drug test, TB, MMR).
