Job Description

TITLE: TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma, preferably some college

2. Four years of experience in transportation, including two years in a supervisory capacity preferably in a school district

3. Demonstrated success in performing tasks of the sort listed below

SUPERVISES: Bus Shop Mechanics and School Bus Drivers

JOB GOAL: To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation to take full

advantage of the complete range of curricular and extra curricular activities

offered by the district’s schools.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extra-curricular activities.
• Prepares bus routes for all public and nonpublic schools in the district.
• Prepares and updates bus schedules for all public and non-public schools in the district.
• Recommends bus route assignments to the Superintendent in accordance with board policy.
• Administers the transportation budget.
• Requests purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district rules.
• Conducts and coordinates staff development workshops for bus drivers.
• Develops recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs based on a survey of resident students, distances, and grade levels.
• Conforms with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
• Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel and makes recommendations to the Superintendent on their employment, transfer, promotion, and release.
• Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventive safety.
• Cooperates with school principals and others responsible for planning special school trips.
• Completes and dispatches insurance reports.
• Submits all reports required by state authorities.
• Advises Superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather.
• Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
