Job summary

Akima seeks a Transportation Coordinator to plan, schedule, and coordinate inbound and outbound movement of Army equipment during turn-in at a contractor-operated site. Ensure compliance with DTR, Army policies, and contract requirements, with accurate documentation and accountability for government property.

Responsibilities include managing shipment schedules, liaising with unit supply, reviewing shipping documents, auditing movement data, and delivering status reports to the Site Manager;

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted.
• 3–5 years of transportation or logistics coordination preferred in Army contractor or military environments.
• Familiarity with Army systems: TC-AIMS II, GCSS-Army, DPAS, LMP.
• Experience with Army turn-in or SSA operations desirable.
• Knowledge of Army regulations and transportation documentation standards.
• Valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance; real ID and CAC eligibility preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage operational activities related to receipt, processing, and shipment of Army equipment and repair parts.
• Develop and manage shipment schedules to prevent bottlenecks during high-volume operations.
• Liaise with unit supply personnel, warehouse teams, drivers, and leadership to ensure seamless cargo flow.
• Review, validate, and authorize shipping/receiving documents (DA 1348‑1A, DD 1149, bills of lading, TCMDs, load plans).
• Audit and reconcile movement data in TC‑AIMS II, GCSS‑Army, and DPAS for compliance and accuracy.
• Maintain oversight of shipping/receiving logs and audit readiness per ISO 9001:2015.
• Interpret and enforce compliance with DTR 4500.9‑R, AR 55‑355, AR 710‑2, AR 735‑5.
• Approve proper HAZMAT packaging, marking, and labeling prior to shipment.
• Oversee cargo securement and safety per Army, DOT, OSHA requirements.
• Prepare analytical daily/weekly movement reports to Site Manager and COR.
• Analyze KPIs and recommend improvements to increase efficiency.
• Serve as senior point of contact for transportation issues; resolve discrepancies.

• Education:

• Experience:

  • Prior experience with Army turn-in or SSA operations highly desirable.
  • Army regulations: AR 55-355, AR 710-2, AR 735-5, and DTR 4500.9-R.
  • Familiarity with Army systems: TC-AIMS II, GCSS-Army, DPAS, LMP.
  • Transportation documentation standards and cargo securement practices.
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and prepare Army transportation forms.
  • Excellent communication skills with Army personnel and contractor staff.
  • Knowledge of HAZMAT handling, DOT/OSHA safety, and load securement.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance.
• Must have a real ID
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
• Must be able to obtain Tier1/ NACI (Public trust) background eligibility.
• Basic proficiency in the English language (reading and writing).
• Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.
• Employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to travel within the United States as required. This position may require up to 25% travel.

Physical Demands & Working Environment

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks in warehouse and field environments.
• Must also meet all physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including working in extreme heat or cold, high, or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions.
• This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, periodic overtime, and exposure to heat, dust, cold, and adverse weather conditions.
