Job summary

DLZ Corporation invites applications for a Manager of Construction Engineering and Inspection – Transportation in Michigan. You will lead CEI services across transportation projects, oversee QA/QC testing, and guide field teams to deliver accurate records and client satisfaction.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, a PE license, 15+ years of transportation CEI experience, and proven ability to develop proposals and manage staff. MDOT familiarity is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• PE license required.
• 15+ years of CEI experience in transportation required.
• MDOT/LAPs familiarity preferred.
• Ability to be prequalified as Construction Engineer for Roadway/Bridges by MDOT.

Responsibilities

• Lead CEI services for DLZ’s Michigan operations.
• Perform CEI on transportation projects with specialized technical work.
• Supervise projects and mentor less experienced staff.
• Manage inspection and testing personnel and QA/QC on multiple projects.
• Lead business development and proposal preparation.
• Assist in developing proposals, change orders, budgets, and contract management.
• Review new procedures and coordinate startups as required.
• Conduct constructability reviews on transportation projects.
• Provide technical support for construction operations.
• Determine testing/inspection requirements from plans/specs.
• Oversee reporting of results to on-site client reps.
• Maintain records of test results and daily reports.
• Identify unusual results or site conditions and suggest corrections.
• Work safely per Health and Safety Plan.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

DLZ Corporation has a Manager of Construction Engineering and Inspection – Transportation opportunity to develop a group and grow into a leadership role in Michigan.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Serve as a leader for construction engineering and inspection services in DLZ’s Michigan operations.
• Perform construction engineering assignments on transportation projects requiring application of specialized technical expertise performed independent of other personnel and exercise professional judgment in autonomous decisions.
• Responsible for projects and have leadership responsibility for less experienced staff.
• Manage the inspection and testing personnel on multiple projects including QA/QC testing. Coordinate and schedule activities in the field.
• Lead in business development and proposal preparation.
• Assist in developing proposals, change orders, budgets, contract management, report review and distribution.
• Review new procedures and coordinate new activity startup as required.
• Constructability reviews on Transportation Projects.
• Provide technical support for construction services operations.
• Determine specified testing and inspection requirements from plans and specifications as needed.
• Oversee reporting of results to designated on-site client representative
• Oversee maintenance of records of test results and daily reports.
• Recognize unusual test results or site conditions, report these in a timely manner. Offer constructive suggestions for possible corrections.
• Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) required
• 15 or more years of construction engineering experience in Transportation systems and programs required
• Experienced with MDOT and LAP’s - Plans/Specifications/Practices
• Ability to be prequalified as Construction Engineer for Roadway and Bridges by MDOT
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential
• Must have the ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Valid driver's license and willing to use personal vehicle for job related work, as needed.
