Job summary

RK&K is seeking Transportation Construction Inspectors, Supervisors, and Managers to support PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and municipal highway projects across Eastern Pennsylvania. This field position covers multiple counties and requires on-site inspections with daily reporting and client coordination.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of transportation inspection experience or 4+ years of related construction experience, plus relevant certifications or degrees.

Qualifications

• Two years or more of transportation construction inspection experience.
• Strong ability to read plans and specifications for roadway projects.
• Proficiency with field sampling, testing, and reporting procedures.
• Ability to operate electronic tablets/computers on-site.
• Candidates may hold a PE or PE-eligible status.

Responsibilities

• Inspect roadway and bridge construction sites for quality and compliance.
• Prepare daily reports, PSA/IDR, and testing documentation.
• Communicate findings with clients, contractors, and field staff.
• Oversee subcontractor QC operations and field testing.
• Maintain safety protocols and environmental requirements on-site.

Description

RK&K is currently seekingTransportationConstruction Inspectors, Supervisors, and Managers(TCI, TCIS, TCM)for PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and Municipal highway and bridge projects throughout Eastern Pennsylvania. This is a field position that will work primarily at specific construction sites within Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties in PennDOT District 5. Ideal candidates will have at least two (2) years of transportation construction inspection experience, OR, at least four (4) years of construction industry experience (preferably heavy highway/bridge construction).RK&K also hires those with related experiences such as military, and surveyor experience.

• Work on various roadway and bridge projects within the region’s geographic area
• Oversight of contractor’s quality control operations
• Quality Assurance sampling and testing
• Completion of Daily Sampling and Testing Reports
• Daily Inspection Reports (PSA’s or IDR’s)
• Daily communication with client, contractor, and field project personnel

Required Skills and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent
• One (1) year of experience as a PennDOT Technical Assistant
• Or(2) two years minimum of transportation, highway, or bridge construction inspection experience
• Or(4) four (4) years minimum of highway or bridge construction, non-highway or bridge inspection, or highway or bridge design experience
• OrPossess a Transportation Technology Construction Inspection certification received through an accredited Technology program approved by the Department
• OrHolds a Bachelor of Science degree in a non-Civil Engineering field
• OrHolds an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
• OrHolds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
• OrHolds an active Professional Engineers License (PE)

Preferred Skills and Experience

• NECEPT Asphalt/Bituminous Field Testing Technician Certification
• ACI/PennDOT Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification
• Experience using PennDOT ECMS v3 and PPCC
• Experience performing field inspections for roadway and bridge construction projects
• Ability to use an electronic tablet and computer and Microsoft Office products required
• Ability to navigate construction sites in different terrain and weather conditions required
• Ability to work day and/or night shifts, based on the type of operation taking place required
• Ability to multitask project assignments and to work independently required
• Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering License
• Applicantsmusthave their own vehicle and a valid driver’s license

Physical Demands

This role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs.Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20–30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include exposure to construction-related hazards.
