Job Description

ATCS's Construction Services group is expanding in Virginia! We are looking for individuals with VA construction management and inspection experience who have or can obtain the necessary VDOT certifications.

We welcome candidates with varying levels of experience — Inspectors, Trainees, Senior Inspectors — to join our team in Richmond, VA, and the surrounding areas!

Responsibilities:
  • Perform transportation construction inspections on Highway, Bridges, Environmental, Traffic, and Facilities projects.
  • Write daily progress reports.
  • Oversee contractor work crews to ensure compliance with contract documents, interpret contract documents, and verify safe construction practices to produce quality results.
  • Conduct field tests on materials (concrete slump/air, soil compaction, and HMA).
  • Document materials, labor compliance, safety, estimates, work orders, and adjustments.
  • Report on-site activities and progress to the Project Engineer using standardized reporting; responsible for calculating and determining pay quantities.
Requirements:
  • Experience in roadway construction inspection, with VDOT knowledge preferred:
    • 0-3 years for Inspection Trainee candidates
    • 3-6 years for Inspector candidates
    • 6+ years for Senior Inspector candidates
  • Knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridges specifications and standards.
  • OSHA safety requirements for road and bridge construction sites.
  • Mathematical skills including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Proficiency with field engineering and testing equipment, inspection methods, and materials.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary certifications within 12 months, including but not limited to:
    • Work Zone Traffic Control
    • Asphalt Concrete Field
    • ACI Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field
    • Soils and Aggregate Compaction
    • Nuclear Safety and Transportation
    • Pavement Marking and Guardrail Installation
    • Storm Water Inspection
    • DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection
    • OSHA Safety training courses
    • Flagging
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SiteManager, PlanGrid, and other project management software.

We offer a competitive salary range of $17.00 to $41.97 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. The position includes overtime, an annual bonus (target 2%), and comprehensive employee benefits such as PTO, holiday PTO, community involvement PTO, various medical plans, dental & vision, 401K with up to 3% match, parental leave, STD & LTD, tuition reimbursement, employee assistance, and more.
