Job summary

Gresham Smith, Nashville Office, is seeking a CEI Inspector to support roadway construction projects. You will observe work, prepare daily reports, and ensure conformance with plans and contract documents.

You’ll oversee earthwork, erosion control, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation while maintaining logs and assisting with RFIs and submittals. Join a collaborative, growth-focused team in a community-driven culture.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma (GED) and a minimum of 2 years of construction or inspection experience on roadway projects
• Preferably TDOT or municipal roadway project experience requiring daily records and reports on asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, structural work, and erosion control
• TDOT CEI certifications are a plus; may be required to participate in certification and training courses post-hire
• Strongly preferred completion of EPSC Training Level 1, and preferably Level 2
• Familiarity with TDOT specifications and documents
• Ability or willingness to learn inspection tools and computer systems for data entry and reporting
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, English language knowledge, grammar, composition, and spelling

Responsibilities

• Observe and inspect construction work and prepare daily inspection reports and constructability reviews
• Oversee daily construction activities including earthwork, erosion control, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation
• Ensure construction progress aligns with specifications and contract documents by reviewing plans and analyzing moderate complexity shop drawings
• Maintain daily job logs and report deviations from plans to management promptly
• Participate in reviewing submittals, assisting with RFIs, and other related tasks
• Coordinate with contractors, client personnel, and other stakeholders regarding inspection activities
• Advise contractors on non-compliance or contract violations and collaborate on corrective actions
• Verify that highway work zones and traffic control setups meet contract requirements
• Assist in contractor evaluations and perform other duties as assigned
• Use or learn necessary inspection tools and computer systems for accurate data collection and reporting
