Job summary

Amazon is seeking Transportation Associates to move trailers in yards, coordinate yard activities, conduct audits, and complete CDL-related training as needed. You will work outdoors, operate multiple CMV types, and learn regulatory requirements to support the transportation network.

Starting pay includes base rate plus shift differential, with potential CDL training paid by Amazon. A valid license and the ability to work flexible hours are required to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Move trailers in the yard and coordinate with operations to ensure on-time arrivals and departures.
  • Perform safety checks and complete driver vehicle inspection reports as required.
  • Learn and follow DOT regulations and company policies on regulatory matters.
  • Track hours, breaks, and schedules while complying with labor rules.
  • Train peers when needed and support adjacent site locations as required.
  • Operate CMVs on yard or non-public roads to move trailers to docks and parking spots.

Are you ready to help Amazon deliver world class service in its transportation operations? Transportation Associates will perform trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinate yard activities (such as checking in trailers, traffic flow, internal communications with operations, etc.), conduct yard audits, complete applicable driver training programs (Hostler, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) School, etc.), and operate multiple vehicle types based on business need (including but not limited to hostlers and day cabs) to support Amazon’s transportation network. As a Transportation Associate You Will
  • Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations. You will follow and enforce safety measures and policies to all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon and those who enter the yard, including vendors and senior team members
  • Perform various functions within the yard, support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers, as needed, to ensure all trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects and to maintain workflow for buildings.
  • Be professionally trained to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads or in yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations.
  • Learn Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and comply with company policies, procedures of those DOT regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, trailer designations, violation and incident reporting requirements, break periods, etc.)
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports on equipment and notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
  • Follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours and breaks at appropriate times in compliance with Amazon policy and federal and state regulations, adhere to yard safety policies, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather/road conditions.
  • Support the business on an as needed basis by serving as a peer trainer and/or working at nearby site locations within the area
  • Drive, maneuver, and load/unload a truck using approved equipment (pallet jack, etc.).

If requested due to business need, Transportation Associates must obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Driver Qualification File (DQF) and utilize it as a condition of the role, paid for by Amazon. If Associate is requested to become CDL and DQF certified to drive Over-the-Road for Amazon, this position becomes regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and follows regulations issued by the DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Candidate must hold a valid driver’s license for the state in which they reside and be eligible to drive in accordance with DOT requirements. For Department of Labor/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration roles (roles for which you receive a CDL), English proficiency is required per federal regulation.

The timing of this requirement is dependent on business need. Continuing in the position with CDL and DQF certification is contingent upon the successful completion of a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening, a DOT physical and Amazon’s pre-employment drug test.

Basic Qualifications
  • Hold a valid and active driver’s license
  • High School or equivalent diploma
  • Candidates must be 21 years or older with the ability to understand and adhere to all job requirement and safety guidelines in English.
  • Can lift up to 49 pounds, stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, reach and ascend/descend stairs
  • Work 40 hours/week, and overtime as required
  • Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse audiences
  • Experience building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors
  • A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Completion of Career Choice Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Course

The starting pay for this position is listed below, including the base pay rate plus the highest available shift differential which applies depending on the shift you select. As a total compensation company, additional earnings may include shift differentials and overtime pay. Final pay will be based on factors including shift selection and location.
