Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a seasoned Design Manager to support our Alternate Delivery team across the Midwest and Southeast U.S. You will lead pursuit and delivery for transportation design-build and related projects, coordinating with leadership, project managers, and regional offices to win and execute work.

The role requires a bachelor degree in engineering, 10+ years in related fields, and strong client communication. DBIA certification and PE are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited program and 10 years related experience.
• 15 years of experience preferred.
• Experience managing complex transportation design or design-build projects.
• Experience with proposal development, project planning, budget management, scheduling, and client coordination.
• Experience working with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and manage multiple concurrent assignments.
• Strong collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to positively influence others and effectively manage project execution activities.
• Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, leadership, and project teams.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Design-Build Institute of America certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead pursuit and project execution activities for alternate delivery projects.
• Develop pursuit strategy and support proposals, interviews, and planning.
• Manage design efforts for alternate delivery pursuits and active projects.
• Monitor budgets, schedules, and performance metrics to meet objectives.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to project managers and engineers.
• Ensure compliance with quality control procedures and delivery standards.
• Support diversity, inclusion, and supplier diversity initiatives.
• Promote collaboration across project teams.
• Coach and provide performance feedback to staff.
