Job summary

Bunzl Kansas City is seeking a Transportation Clerk to provide admin support to the transportation department, including filing freight claims, reviewing DOT logs for compliance, negotiating freight rates, and assisting in the warehouse as needed.

The 7am-3:30pm shift offers $23/hour. Responsibilities include coordinating routes, reviewing costs daily, and ensuring on-time deliveries, with emphasis on accuracy and strong communication with drivers and customers.

Qualifications

• High School/GED education required.
• Detailed knowledge of local, state and federal DOT/FMCSR rules required.
• Minimum of 2 years of transportation administration/clerk experience required, preferably in a warehouse/distribution environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• AS400/iSeries experience preferred, particularly inventory/receiving functions.

Responsibilities

• Constant communication with drivers to ensure on time deliveries/pick-ups and customer satisfaction.
• Coordinate the routes daily based on customer needs.
• Review LTL and UPS costs daily for cost effectiveness based on customer needs.
• File freight claims with the applicable carrier.
• Using the AS400, negotiate freight rates for better service and cost effectiveness.
• Review driver logs, hours of service, trip reports, driver reports, etc. for DOT/FMCSR compliance.
• Assist with warehouse responsibilities as required.
