Job description

PURPOSE


Driver Supervisor serves as a liaison between school administrators, bus drivers, support staff, and families to ensure the efficient, safe, and timely transportation of students. This role manages driver performance and assignments, provides technical and behavioral guidance, and steps in to operate a bus route when needed. Ensures compliance with district policies, state regulations, and safety standards while promoting effective communication and problem resolution across stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


• Associate’s Degree
• Three years in student transportation, or related field preferred.
• Strong, computer, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
• Work effectively with all individuals, resolve conflicts, and make sound decisions.
• Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License within 90 days of securing position
• Indiana State School Bus Driver Safety Certification
• Lift Training Certification


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


1. Serve as a liaison between school administrators, bus drivers, support staff and others concerning transportation needs and activities; ensure proper and timely resolution of transportation and bus driver issues and conflicts.


2. Ensure timely and appropriate resolution of transportation conflicts, students behavior issues, and driver concerns.


3. Supervise assigned personnel including school bus drivers and aides, providing training performance evaluations.


4. Provide technical support and guidance to drivers regarding student behavior management, disciplinary procedures, and incident resolution.


5. Conduct observation rides to assess driver performance and safety practices; provide ongoing training and coaching as needed.


6. Communicate with schools and parents to resolve transportation issues related to student behavior, health conditions, or route concerns.


7. Coordinate bus driver meetings with school site administrators as directed.


8. Drive open routes in the absence of available substitutes to maintain uninterrupted student transportation services.


9. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

Flexibility: Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch to perform specific duties.

Mobility: Freedom to sit or walk at will throughout the work environment.
Strength and Stamina: Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds or more.
Outdoor Work: Tolerance of work outside in various weather conditions.
