Job summary

Rush Oak Park Hospital is seeking a dedicated Transport Technician to move patients and equipment across departments in Oak Park, IL. You will assist with patient transfers, operate the EPIC transport system, and support routine clerical tasks within the Central Transportation department.

Responsibilities include safe handling of beds, wheels, and stretchers; PPE compliance; and maintaining patient privacy and care standards throughout shifts.

Responsibilities

Pay Range: $16.20 - $21.77 per hour

Summary

Under the director of the Manager of Medical Imaging/Cardiology and with general supervision of the lead techs, transports patients to and from all areas of the hospital Will assists in transporting equipment, specimens and minor clerical duties as needed in a manner that exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Abilities

Physical ability to help lift 50 lbs. and greater. Ability to push and pull patients and transportation equipment up and down inclines. Have the stamina to spend 90% of the workday on their feet. The ability to read and have basic computer skills necessary to utilize the hospital EMR to perform job duties.

• Transports patients, and patient care equipment to designated areas throughout the hospital.

• Observes hospital policies regarding Isolation precautions and required PPE policies.
• Ability to transport and treat patients with respect for their privacy and modesty.
• Transfers patients to and from wheelchairs, bed and diagnostic equipment using safe and ergonomic maneuvers.
• Physically move patients on an doff transport equipment. Assist the patient care units/department staff with transferring patients to and from beds to wheelchairs/stretchers.
• Maintains a safe, secure and healthy work environment in accordance with the hospital policies and complying with the governing regulations.
• Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age specific care and knowledge of decision-making process for all ages of population(s) served.
• Obtains appropriate equipment to accomplish task with minimal disruption.
• Deliver wheelchairs and stretchers that need repair to the designated area.
• Ability to cope with and manage change.
• Performs duties in accordance with HIPPA policies
• Train new Transport techs on all aspects of the jobs: i.e. equipment, Patient tracking via phone, recording job assignments, body mechanics, elevator etiquette, etc.
• To maintain self in appearance and attitude in a professional manner.
• To function under pressure when interacting with patients, co-workers, etc. under difficult situations.
• Transports blood products, surgical specimens, and/or other various supplies as needed throughout the hospital.
• Alert Security Department when unusual occurrences are observed.
• Performs related Duties as assigned.
