Position Information

Paris District is seeking to hire a Transport Engineer Specialist II, III or IV in Transportation Planning and Development. As a Tranport Engineer Specialist you will be part of our Design team working on projects that will improve the TxDOT roadways you and your family drive on everyday. This position requires a strong design background with good oral and written communication skills. This position also requires good organizational and time management skills, and being a team player when it comes to getting the job done. This job opening is for a Transport Engineer Specialist II, III or IV depending on business need and applicant's qualifications and experience. Qualification and experience will determine the applicant's position and pay. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant’s work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Transport Engineer Specialist II or III:

Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques; trains and reviews the work of others. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence and serve as a leader

Transport Engineer Specialist IV:

Provides highly skilled technical expertise and oversees multiple design and/or advanced building construction projects. Reports to a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Work requires contact with governmental agencies, consultants and construction firms. May serve as lead worker.

Essential Duties Transport Engineer Specialist II, III or IV:

  • Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education for Transport Engineer Specialist II, III or IV: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience:

Transport Engineer Specialist II: 7 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation

Transport Engineer Specialist III: 8 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation

Transport Engineer Specialist IV: 9 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation

(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs

  • Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
  • This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
