Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta seeks a Dispatch Specialist to coordinate and dispatch air and ground transport calls. You will provide administrative support, direct transport operations, and ensure timely, safe patient movement using radios, databases, and mapping systems.

The role requires at least 1 year in a dispatch center handling EMS traffic or healthcare operations, with knowledge of medical terminology and strong data-entry skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides and/or procures information for dispatch of air and ground transport teams.
• Operates two-way radio, computer database, mapping systems, and related systems/equipment.
• Responds and dispatches transport teams promptly and accurately.
• Performs all tasks required for patient intake, ground and flight request, and related paperwork.
• Triages transport requests and prioritizes calls according to unit availability.
• Coordinates teleconferences with physicians, flight staff, referral sources, and receiving units.
• Maintains databases on referrals and hospital locations.
• Reads maps to determine locations of accident scenes or referrals.

Job Description

Details, coordinates, and dispatches for air and ground transport calls, including administrative support to department. Provides direction and/or coordination of incoming patient transports. Uses medical terminology, clinical knowledge, and communication skills to coordinate and provide for timely and safe patient transport. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience

• 1 year of experience in a dispatch center handling emergency medical services traffic or equivalent experience in a healthcare business environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic current Georgia license
• National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
• Critical care certification

Education

• High school graduate or equivalent

Certification Summary

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (Paramedics only)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of employment

Job Responsibilities

• Provides and/or procures information for dispatch of air and ground transport teams.
• Operates two-way radio, computer database, mapping systems, and related systems/equipment in support of air medical and ground-based patient transport services.
• Responds and dispatches transport teams promptly and accurately.
• Performs all tasks required for accurate completion of patient intake, ground and flight request, and other related transport paperwork.
• Triages transport requests, prioritizes incoming calls according to unit availability, and determines response mode as emergency or non-emergency in conjunction with medical staff.
• Receives incoming calls, determines destination based on system algorithms, and sets up teleconferences with attending physician(s), flight nurse, referral source, online medical control, and appropriate receiving units as needed.
• Provides information on aircraft or ground transport availability.
• Maintains assigned databases on referrals and hospital locations.
• Accesses, reads, and interprets county, state, and specialized maps for determining locations of accident scenes or referral sources.
• Assists in training and orientation of Communications Specialist.
• Performs assigned departmental business functions.
• Participates in achievement of organizational and departmental goals.
• Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings.
