Responsibilities

  • Perform on-call organ procurement, preservation, and transportation for cadaveric donor organs.
  • Verify donor and recipient medical information for compatibility.
  • Review donor medical records for consent, medical/social history, and required clinical data.
  • Complete intraoperative documentation, operative reports, and specimen labeling per UCLA policies and CMS/HIPAA requirements.
  • Use sterile techniques to perfuse and preserve donor organs per SOPs.
  • Coordinate medevac transportation to and from donor facilities.
  • Serve as liaison between procurement teams, transplant centers, and organ procurement organizations.
  • Oversee safe, efficient transport of donor organs to UCLA Medical Center.
  • Assist with packaging and handling of donor organs to maintain organ integrity and compliance.
  • Maintain inventory of procurement and preservation supplies.
  • Collect data for QA and PI initiatives and transplant program projects.

Job description

Description
Under the supervision of the Division Administrator, the Hospital Laboratory Technician II (HLT II) is responsible for the on-call preservation, procurement, and transportation of cadaveric donor organs for transplantation. This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining organ viability, and coordinating with multidisciplinary transplant teams. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform on-call organ procurement, preservation, and transportation activities for cadaveric donor organs.
  • Verify donor and recipient medical information to ensure organ and tissue compatibility.
  • Review donor medical records to confirm consent, medical and social history, and other required clinical information.
  • Complete intraoperative documentation, operative reports, and specimen labeling in accordance with UCLA policies, UNOS standards, CMS regulations, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Utilize sterile techniques to perfuse and preserve donor organs following UCLA standard operating procedures and transplant protocols.
  • Coordinate medical evacuation (medevac) transportation to and from donor facilities.
  • Serve as a communication liaison between procurement teams, transplant centers, and organ procurement organizations to ensure timely exchange of critical information.
  • Oversee the safe, efficient, and timely transport of donor organs to UCLA Medical Center.
  • Assist with the proper packaging and handling of donor organs to maintain organ integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain inventory and availability of procurement and preservation supplies, including recovery packs, perfusion supplies, preservation solutions, coolers, and related equipment.
  • Collect and maintain data for Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives, clinical studies, and transplant program projects under the direction of the Chief of Procurement and Transplant Services QA Manager.
  • Support continuous quality improvement efforts and adherence to transplant program standards and best practices.

Salary Range: $53.37/hourly
