Job summary

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, part of MedStar Health, is seeking an experienced Transplant Nurse Coordinator to provide patient care for transplant patients following established standards and practices.

This role advances the clinical mission of the Transplant Institute through collaboration with the Medical Center, including coordination with hepatologists, nephrologists, surgeons, schedulers, insurers and social workers to support pre- and post-transplant care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
• DC RN licensure or compact licensure required.
• CPR certification for healthcare providers within 90 days.
• 3–4 years professional nursing experience.
• Transplant/hepatology/outpatient or dialysis experience preferred.
• CCTC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with potential transplant candidates and referring physicians.
• Facilitates pre- and post-transplant evaluations with the care team.
• Coordinates evaluations with patients, hospital teams, and specialists.
• Assesses patients for placement on the transplant waiting list.
• Manages and educates patients pre-/post-transplant; communicates with UNOS.
• Participates in rounds, meetings, and educational programs.

About the Role

The Transplant Nurse Coordinator provides patient care for transplant patients following established standards and practices. Functions to advance the clinical mission and goals of the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute through collaborative relationships within the Medical Center.

Key responsibilities include

• Communicates with potential transplant candidates and/or referring physicians.
• Facilitates the evaluation of both pre- and post-transplant patients by interfacing with referring physicians, Transplant hepatologists, Transplant nephrologists, Transplant surgeons, scheduling coordinators, consultants, insurance coordinators, and social workers. Primary responsibility for the planning implementation and evaluation of this process.
• Coordinates evaluation with the patient/family and appropriate members of the hospital, the transplant team, the patient's primary care physician and cardiologist and clinical consultants.
• Assess patients for placement on the transplant waiting list.
• Coordinates the complex management and education of patients' pre- and post-transplants. Communicates with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) to maintain an accurate and current patient waiting list.
• Participate in clinical rounds meetings, conferences consultations and educational programs designed to increase knowledge and to improve patient care and staff performance; serve as a consultant to physicians and staff members regarding services in the specialty area

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited School of Nursing
• RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
• 3-4 years professional nursing experience required
• previous transplant, hepatology, outpatient or dialysis experience preferred
• CCTC - Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator preferred

This position has a hiring range of USD $97,947.20 - USD $162.80 /Yr.
