Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patients with advanced CKD/ESRD considered for kidney transplantation.
• Perform comprehensive pre-transplant assessments and determine transplant candidacy.
• Provide inpatient and outpatient management of kidney transplant recipients.
• Develop and oversee immunosuppressive treatment plans and monitor for complications.
• Manage post-transplant complications including allograft dysfunction and infection.
• Participate in transplant selection committee meetings and care planning.
• Collaborate with transplant surgeons, dialysis providers, PCPs and nephrologists for continuity of care.
• Support living donor evaluations and donor-recipient matching.
• Engage in quality improvement, regulatory compliance and transplant outcomes metrics.
• Contribute to clinical research, education and program development; train fellows.

Transplant Nephrologist Opportunity

Position Overview

The Methodist Transplant Institute, in partnership with The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), is accepting applications for a kidney transplant surgeon with strong experience in living donor nephrectomies to join our high-volume kidney transplant program. As a leader in the field of organ transplantation for more than 40 years, this transplant program provides liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, living donor organ transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery to patients with end stage organ disease in the Midsouth.

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Transplant Nephrologist to join our growing multidisciplinary transplant team in Memphis, Tennessee. This physician will play a key role in the evaluation, management, and long-term care of kidney transplant candidates and recipients while contributing to the growth and quality of our transplant program.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive transplant nephrology services across the continuum of care, including pre-transplant evaluations, waitlist management, and post-transplant follow-up. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with the Methodist Transplant Institute Multidisciplinary Transplant Team to deliver exceptional comprehensive, high quality transplant care while advancing transplant access throughout the Mid-South region.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patients with advanced chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease being considered for kidney transplantation.
• Perform comprehensive pre-transplant assessments and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to determine transplant candidacy.
• Provide inpatient and outpatient management of kidney transplant recipients throughout all phases of care.
• Develop and oversee immunosuppressive treatment plans, monitoring for rejection, infection, and medication-related complications.
• Manage post-transplant complications, including allograft dysfunction, rejection, infectious diseases, and metabolic abnormalities.
• Participate in transplant selection committee meetings and contribute to programmatic decision-making and patient care planning.
• Collaborate closely with transplant surgeons, dialysis providers, primary care physicians, and referring nephrologists to ensure seamless continuity of care.
• Support living donor evaluations and donor-recipient matching processes as appropriate.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance activities, and performance metrics related to transplant outcomes.
• Engage in clinical research, education, and program development opportunities that support the growth of the transplant service line.
• Participate in the training of nephrology and transplant nephrology fellows.

Qualifications

Required

• 1. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
• 2. Successful completion of an accredited Nephrology Fellowship.
• 3. Board Certification in Nephrology (or Board Eligibility with certification expected within a designated timeframe).
• 4. Demonstrated training and experience in Transplant Nephrology.
• 5. Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Tennessee.
• 6. Active or eligible federal DEA licensure for controlled substances.
• 7. Strong commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration and patient-centered transplant care.

Preferred

• 1. American Society of Transplantation (AST) training or involvement.
• 2. Experience managing complex kidney transplant recipients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• 3. Interest in quality improvement, transplant program growth and clinical research.
