Job summary

University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake Transplant Services seeks a Transplant Financial Coordinator to manage patient insurance benefits, payer authorizations, and cost discussions for transplant candidates and living donors. You will coordinate with clinical teams to verify coverage and secure pre-transplant funding.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in-office, 2 days from home) and a chance to support multi-organ transplant programs within UW Medicine.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED plus two years in a medical office setting.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and document detailed patient insurance benefit information for all phases of the transplant process.
• Obtain all necessary authorizations from payers and referrals when required, requesting BLE or SCA as appropriate.
• Collect clinical documentation for payors for approval of transplant phases (verification, authorization, referrals, precertification).
• Communicate status of payer requests and denials to clinical staff and coordinate appeals as needed.
• Meet with transplant candidates and potential living donors to explain insurance coverage and costs.
• Ensure adequate insurance or funding arrangements before transplant; document all interactions.
