The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a technical professional to assist in the design, maintenance, procurement, testing, and implementation of CADD workspaces and related engineering software for multiple design teams. You will provide advanced training and support, and help coordinate data transfers with regional offices and contractors.
Responsibilities include creating documentation, assisting with program customizations, and representing the Office of Engineering
Assists with the design, maintenance, procurement, testing, program customization and implementation of CADD workspaces, engineering software programs, plotting and file storage for hydraulic design, roadway design, geotechnical design, and bridge structural design teams to streamline project setup and data access. Assists with the customizations of hydraulic design, roadway design, geotechnical design, and bridge design programs in accordance with AASHTO and department specifications and guidelines. Recommends and promotes automation procedures to enhance existing drafting and plotting processes.
Provides advanced technical assistance to the Regional Production Group offices for CADD, engineering software, and plotting controls to expedite project design time. Provides training and technical assistance in using development programs for design and plan preparation.
Assists with the development, support and training in the creation of electronic engineering roadway construction data for SCDOT construction offices and contractors. Communicates with Regional Production Groups, consultants, and other SCDOT engineering offices to coordinate data transfer via dedicated web pages and other file transfer protocols.
Represents Office of Engineering Support in meetings and conferences. Provides oral/written evaluation reports, technical documentation, and presentations to management. Creates customized documentation to assist users in software usage. Attends technical conferences. Provides engineering plotting services to the department. Produces special plots and PowerPoint files for executive presentations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
