Job summary

Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT, seeks a Mechanical Engineering Intern for summer 2027 to perform transmissions design and analysis on commercial and military engine programs.

The Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) Transmissions Team is seeking an intern for the summer of 2027 that is interested in performing transmissions design and analysis on both commercial and military engine programs.

As a Transmissions Discipline Intern at Pratt & Whitney you will.....

• Assist in design and analysis in support of all phases of product life cycle including preliminary design, detailed design, development testing and validation, certification, delivery support, and post engine production & service support.
• Assist in monitoring gearbox health during rig validation testing, perform test data-reduction and analysis, and confirm test objectives are met.
• Support field investigations.
• Participate In EKS improvement/creation
• Utilize gear design and analysis tools to define gear geometry and confirm full life capability.
• Work to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.
• Perform gear train design and analysis, participate on multi-disciplined integrated product teams, collaborate in design and analysis results during reviews. Hardware support includes the fan drive gear system, accessory gearboxes, compartment bevel gears, lube pumps, and supplier designed components.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship session.
• Experience in gear design, analysis, or tribology
• Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects Qualifications We Prefer

• Ability to obtain a security clearance if required.
• Gearlab Experience
• Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
