Job summary

LCRA is seeking a Reliability Engineering Intern to apply classroom knowledge to real-world power utility systems in Texas. You will help monitor grid stability by analyzing equipment performance and health, leveraging engineering principles to prevent failures and outages.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Use Power BI and SQL to monitor transmission equipment health and identify trends.
  • Investigate equipment failures and incidents to determine root causes and propose corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to optimize preventive schedules and extend asset life.
  • Perform reliability assessments to identify network vulnerabilities and suggest mitigations.
  • Work with operations, maintenance, and construction teams to align asset management strategies.

How You’ll Contribute
  • Leverage data visualization tools (Power BI, SQL) to continuously monitor transmission equipment health, identify trends, and drive condition-based maintenance strategies.
  • Investigate equipment failures and system incidents to determine root causes, implementing targeted corrective and preventive measures to eliminate recurrence.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to optimize preventive schedules, develop robust procedures, and execute strategies that extend the operational life of critical transmission assets.
  • Conduct comprehensive reliability assessments to pinpoint network vulnerabilities, designing mitigation strategies against extreme weather, cyber threats, and other operational disruptions.
  • Work seamlessly with operations, maintenance, and construction departments to align asset management strategies and achieve shared corporate reliability goals.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and develop innovative technical solutions to proactively enhance overall system reliability and performance.
How You’re Qualified
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university/college program in junior year or has completed junior year and will be starting senior year.
How You’ll Stand Out
  • Degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering
  • Previous internship or work experience in reliability or utility engineering
