Job summary

LCRA Transmission Services Corporation (TSC) in Austin seeks an engineering undergraduate for a Reliability Engineering Intern role. You will apply coursework to real-world power utility systems, analyze equipment performance, and support efforts to prevent outages while learning from experienced engineers.

You’ll use Power BI and SQL to monitor asset health, investigate failures, and help optimize maintenance schedules.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university/college engineering program as a junior.
  • Must be an engineering undergraduate and available for internship.
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Interest in reliability and power utility systems.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor transmission equipment health using Power BI and SQL to support maintenance strategies.
  • Investigate equipment failures to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to optimize preventive schedules and extend asset life.
  • Conduct reliability assessments to identify vulnerabilities and design mitigation strategies.
  • Scale asset management efforts by aligning with operations, maintenance, and construction teams.
  • Propose improvements to processes to enhance system reliability and performance.

Are you an engineering undergraduate eager to apply your academic knowledge to real-world power utility systems? As a Reliability Engineering Intern, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our grid's stability by analyzing equipment performance, investigating equipment health, and leveraging engineering principals to prevent equipment failures and outages. This role offers a strong entry point into Reliability Engineering, with opportunities to learn from industry experts, collaborate on impactful projects, and grow your career while making a difference in communities across Texas.

How You’ll Contribute
  • Leverage data visualization tools (Power BI, SQL) to continuously monitor transmission equipment health, identify trends, and drive condition-based maintenance strategies.
  • Investigate equipment failures and system incidents to determine root causes, implementing targeted corrective and preventive measures to eliminate recurrence.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to optimize preventive schedules, develop robust procedures, and execute strategies that extend the operational life of critical transmission assets.
  • Conduct comprehensive reliability assessments to pinpoint network vulnerabilities, designing mitigation strategies against extreme weather, cyber threats, and other operational disruptions.
  • Work seamlessly with operations, maintenance, and construction departments to align asset management strategies and achieve shared corporate reliability goals.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and develop innovative technical solutions to proactively enhance overall system reliability and performance.
How You’re Qualified
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university/college program in junior year or has completed junior year and will be starting senior year.

  • Degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering
  • Previous internship or work experience in reliability or utility engineering
