FirstEnergy is seeking Transmission Project Manager professionals to oversee and deliver complex transmission and distribution projects within Ohio. Roles vary by level, with progression through increasing project complexity and independence.

Responsibilities include scope review, budget oversight, change management and stakeholder communication. Some travel to project locations within the service territory will be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Construction Management or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience; in lieu of degree, 7 years related experience or 5 years transmission/ distribution utility experience.
  • Strong project management abilities and scheduling/resource planning knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Review project documents for clarity and completeness (scope, plan, contracts, E/W requests).
  • Review project budgets for adequacy; initiate revisions as needed.
  • Ensure change management documentation for scope, schedule and costs.
  • Provide project status reports and risk/issue mitigation strategies.
  • Obtain concurrence from affected departments for schedule/resource needs.
  • Validate project estimates including contingency; develop execution plan.
  • Monitor contractor resources; oversee project team membership and consultants.
  • Understand contract terms and review contractor onboarding topics at mobilization.
  • Ensure QA program adherence and review contractor procedures.

Job description

This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which consider the candidate’s skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.

There are multiple roles open to support either transmission projects or distribution projects. These positions can be at several Ohio FirstEnergy locations.

FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.

The estimated pay range for this role is $77,350- $139,800. The pay range for certain locations, including the state of New Jersey, include a 20% differential to account for an increased cost of living, making the pay range $92,820- $167,760.

Both levels of Project Managers will manage, monitor and control projects to ensure that they safely achieve the Project deliverables within the approved scope, cost and schedule.

The level III position will be assigned less complex projects commensurate with level of experience and will be guided by senior level Project Managers. Projects assigned will progress in complexity to enable progression to the next level.

Responsibilities Include
  • Reviewing Project documents for clarity and completeness - examples include scope documents, project plan, contracts, equipment and construction bid packages, requisitions, Bills of Material or Material Requests for Issue, Task Authorizations, and Engineering Work Requests.
  • Reviewing Project and contract budgets for adequacy and completeness. Initiating and ensuring budget revisions made and documented when required.
  • Ensuring change management protocols are followed to ensure complete documentation for changes in scope, schedule and costs.
  • Providing project status reports. Recurring, standard reports and ad hoc reports that address status of scope, budget and schedule and that identifies risks and issues and outlines mitigation strategy.
  • Obtaining concurrence (or buy-in) from affected departments to support the proposed schedule and resource requirements. Review and approval of Project Plans.
  • Validating project estimates including contingency.
  • Developing, with input of project team, the strategic and tactical execution plan for the project.
  • Monitoring and / or reporting contractor resource levels.
  • Ensuring adequacy of Project Team membership and participation. Responsible for overseeing the activities of consultants and contractors assigned.
  • Understanding the terms of the contract and associated documentation of services under the contract/purchase order. Upon mobilization to the site, reviews applicable topics delineated in the Service Contractor Orientation/Evaluation Checklist with the contractor.
  • Responsible for the quality assurance and control program, including identification of quality requirements, responsibility for QA program (Energy Delivery's or Contractor's program) and if required, review and approval process for contractor provided procedures.
  • Communicating Project goals, priorities and decisions to the Region/Corporate Leadership Team.
  • Ensuring Project challenge meetings, peer reviews and assessments are performed.
  • Working with Project Controls to develop and update the Project schedule.
  • Identifying and notifying the Project Team of additional resources or requirements necessary to meet the Project scope or schedule
  • Ensuring the close-out and lessons-learned protocols are completed. Participating in audit of completed projects to evaluate whether identified objectives and benefits have been realized.
Qualifications At The Transmission Project Manager III Level Include
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Construction Management or related field is required. Minimum of 3 years’ related experience required. In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to applicants having 7 years related experience or 5 years transmission or distribution utility experience.
  • Related experience includes project organization, engineering, finance, construction, project management, planning or project controls.
  • Strong project management abilities with exceptional time management skills are required. Candidate needs the demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and control multiple tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills along with strong analytical ability are required.
  • Experience with a project management tool such as Primavera, MS Project, etc. with related Scheduling / Resource Planning expertise is a plus
  • Detailed Project Controls experience is a plus
  • Understanding of construction timing and construction documentation
  • Successful candidate must be a team player and possess a willingness to work in a team environment. Must be willing to travel to assigned project locations throughout the service territory.
Qualifications at the Transmission Project Manager IV level include all the above plus:
Responsibilities

An employee hired at the Transmission Project Manager IV level will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Transmission Project Manager IV level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those above, including:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Construction Management or related field is required. Minimum of 5 years’ related experience required. In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to applicants having 10 years related experience or 7 years transmission or distribution experience.
  • Related experience includes project organization, engineering, finance, construction, project management, planning or project controls.

The level V employee will be assigned projects of increasing complexity. At this level the Project Manager is expected to manage any project in the portfolio with guidance as needed from Leadership. Projects assigned will progress in complexity and variety to facilitate acquiring a breadth of knowledge and experience to become and subject matter expert and progress to next level.

Qualifications at the Transmission Project Manager V include all the above plus:

Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Construction Management or related field is required. Minimum of 8 years’ related experience required. In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to applicants having 12 years related experience or 8 years transmission experience.

  • Related experience includes project organization, engineering, finance, construction, project management, planning or project controls.
  • Strong project management skills are required with a demonstrated ability to develop, manage and control multiple tasks.
  • Experience with a project management tool such as Primavera, MS Project, etc. with related Scheduling / Resource Planning expertise is a plus.
  • Detailed Project Controls experience is a definite plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical ability are required.
  • Successful candidate must be a team player and possess a willingness to work in a team environment.
