Job summary

Duke Energy, based in North Carolina, seeks an Engineer II for Transmission Planning in the Carolinas. The role develops advanced engineering solutions for reliable grid expansion, applying concepts with limited supervision and growing independence.

You will model systems, perform stability studies, and coordinate with internal teams and regulatory bodies to align processes with standards while contributing to project planning and execution.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering from ABET-accredited program; Master’s degree can substitute for BS
• Minimum 2 years of engineering experience in transmission planning or related field
• Preference for MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering; experience with PSSE/TARA is a plus

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission planning steady-state power flow studies using PSSE and TARA
• Build and update models of existing and future transmission systems
• Coordinate with multiple internal departments to advance planning projects
• Engage with regulatory groups (SERC, NERC) to ensure compliance
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, and sketches for defined problems and moderate scope
