You will independently perform planning studies, analyze life-cycle costs, develop reports and client presentations, and support business development. Willingness to travel and telecommute part-year is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET-accredited) plus 3 years in power system planning/operations.
  • Or Master’s degree in engineering plus 2 years in power system planning/operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a broad range of studies including power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, voltage and harmonics analyses.
  • Independently execute transmission system planning using industry software (PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, Promod).
  • Develop technical reports, client presentations, and contract administration for utility design/planning.
  • Assist project managers in business development including proposals and client relationships.
  • Travel up to 15% domestically for meetings; telecommuting up to 30 days per year.

Job description

Description
  • Perform a broad range of studies and other consulting services such as transmission planning and operational studies consisting of power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, voltage analysis, harmonics analysis, electromagnetic, reliability, and economic dispatch associated with congestion management scenarios.
  • Evaluate regulatory conditions and risks by applying NERC, FERC, and Regional requirements, policies and procedures, production costing, risk assessment techniques, TPL compliance, and generator interconnection principles.
  • Independently execute transmission system planning studies using industry software such as PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Promod.
  • Perform independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria.
  • Conduct data analysis and interpretation of engineering, financial, and economic conditions and results, and subsequent technical business implications to client projects.
  • Analyze life-cycle costs by developing and incorporating technical assumptions regarding capital costs, operation and maintenance costs, performance estimates, and economic assumptions and forecasts.
  • Conducts technical and business-related risk assessments that evaluate impacts associated with rules implemented by regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and conduct detailed financial analysis using a variety of computer-based software.
  • Develop technical reports and presentations summarizing results of analysis.
  • Develop client presentations, engineering reviews, financial analysis, and contract administration for the design/planning of utility systems.
  • Assist project managers in business development activities including proposal development and client relationships.
  • Support business lines as required by clients.
  • Up to 15% domestic travel is required to client locations for meetings and presentations.
  • Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus three (3) years of experience in power system planning and operations. Alternatively, the employer will also accept a master's degree in engineering, or a directly related field plus two (2) years of experience in power system planning and operations in lieu of bachelor's degree plus three (3) years of described experience.

Must have two (2) years of experience in the following:

  • Power system analysis, protection and control, electrical design, or system planning processes.
  • Evaluating system performance, developing solutions, or upgrading electrical facilities.
  • Standard engineering, construction, operation techniques, principles, or procedures associated with electrical facilities.
  • Either consulting or electric utilities experience.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Up to 15% domestic travel is required to client locations for meetings and presentations. Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year.
