Job summary

Verdantas is seeking a mid-level Transmission Line Engineer to join the Transmission & Structural team within Energy Services, based in Houston, TX. The role supports utility clients nationwide and involves design, analysis, and mentoring of junior staff.

You will use PLS-CADD/PLS-POLE/PLS-TOWER, work toward a PE license within 12 months, and coordinate with civil, structural, and environmental disciplines on projects across multiple states.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering required.
• Master’s degree preferred for advanced roles and leadership potential.
• PE license either held or obtainable within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission line design and analysis using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER for voltages up to 500 kV.
• Develop structure loading, framing, and connection designs per NESC and ASCE standards.
• Prepare plan-and-profile drawings, material lists, and construction packages.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams.

This position can also be local to San Diego, CA, Lakewood, CO, Orlando, FL, or Ft Worth, TX. In this role, you will perform design and analysis for overhead transmission line projects, structure loading and framing, foundation coordination, and PLS-CADD / PLS-POLE / PLS-TOWER modeling, supporting utility clients nationwide. This is a growth-oriented position for an engineer ready to own design packages, mentor junior staff, and advance toward technical and project leadership.What You'll Do:Perform transmission line design and analysis using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER for voltages up to and including 500 kVDevelop structure loading, framing, and connection designs in accordance with the NESC, ASCE (10/74/113), and client-specific standardsPrepare and check plan-and-profile drawings, structure and material lists, and construction packagesPerform sag-tension, clearance, and structure/foundation loading calculationsCoordinate foundation design with structural and geotechnical staffSupport field data collection, LiDAR-based modeling, and as-built verificationCollaborate across structural, civil, and environmental disciplines to deliver integrated projectsMentor and check the work of junior engineers and designersInterface with clients and contribute to proposals, scoping, and estimatesWhat You'll Bring:Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering (or a closely related field)4–8 years of transmission line engineering experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one within 12 monthsProficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWERWorking knowledge of the NESC and applicable ASCE and utility design standardsStrong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple prioritiesPreferred Qualifications:Experience supporting major investor-owned utilities (e.g., CenterPoint, SDG&E, PG&E, Duke Energy, PPL)Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering (or a closely related field)Owner’s Engineer or utility program-support experienceExperience with grid-hardening, wildfire mitigation, or reconductoring programsFor Civil/Structural: Experience with foundation design (Direct Embed and Drilled Pier Foundations); working with Structural Fabricators; Detailed Steel Design of Transmission and Substation StructuresFor Electrical: Experience with electrical transmission studies; hardware sizing for base insulation levels; ampacity & shielding calculations; conductor sizing; induction studiesSalary Range:At Verdantas, we offer comprehensive benefits packages for our employees.
