The engineer contributes to route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction management while ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering and design activities related to transmission line projects, including engineering analysis, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction management.
  • Prepare comprehensive project construction documents such as plan and profile drawings, design drawings, engineering specifications, material and construction specifications, project schedules, and bills of material.
  • Develop and evaluate project design alternatives and prepare corresponding cost estimates to support decision‑making.
  • Design new transmission facilities with voltage levels ranging from 12 kV to 765 kV.
  • Use PLS-CADD software to model and optimize transmission line design projects.
  • Lead and participate in contractor bid and construction meetings, helping ensure that work activities are performed safely, follow project plans and schedules, comply with company policies, rules, and standards, and meet external regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractors to secure necessary project permits.
  • Provide leadership to facilitate timely project completion, mentor and train other engineers, and help develop measurable goals and objectives for the work area.
  • Serve as a project lead for transmission projects, overseeing technical execution and coordinating project tasks.
  • Coordinate work activities within the work group and department to ensure successful completion of transmission projects.
  • Provide training and guidance to lower‑level employees, supporting their development and performance.
  • Initiate corrective actions when substation project objectives or transmission project goals are not being met.
  • Work under the supervision of higher‑level engineers while progressively taking on more responsibility.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to support design, construction, and project oversight activities.
Essential Skills
  • Two to five years of experience working in utilities with a focus on transmission line design.
  • Two to five years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finish.
  • Two to five years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for transmission line projects.
  • Proficiency in transmission line design tools and processes, including the ability to perform engineering analysis and develop detailed design documentation.
  • Hands‑on experience using PLS-CADD for transmission line modeling and design.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation for creating and modifying engineering and design drawings.
  • Strong ability to prepare plan and profile drawings, design drawings, and detailed engineering specifications.
  • Capability to coordinate with contractors and regulatory agencies and support permitting activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead project tasks and collaborate within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with an ABET‑accredited degree counting toward required years of experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) license is desirable but not required.
  • Experience developing project design alternatives and associated cost estimates.
  • Familiarity with project schedules and bills of material for transmission line projects.
  • Ability to provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with in‑house and client engineers and designers.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple project tasks and meet established schedules.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to internal policies, standards, and external regulations.
Work Environment

The role is based in a quiet engineering office environment designed to support focused technical work and collaboration. Designers typically share a cubicle with another designer, often a more SR team member, which encourages informal mentoring and knowledge sharing. The dress code is business casual, reflecting a professional yet comfortable atmosphere. Teamwork is highly encouraged and occurs frequently, with engineers and designers working together to solve complex transmission challenges and deliver high‑quality solutions for utility projects.

This is a Permanent position based out of Atlanta, GA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
