Job Overview

Lead a high-performing crew building the foundations that power Texas and beyond. Pilot Foundation Services is hiring an experienced Transmission Foundation Foreman to plan, direct, and supervise daily foundation operations on transmission projects across Texas and surrounding states.

This role oversees an assigned transmission crew, manages resources, enforces safety, and serves as the primary on-site point of contact for crews, leadership, subcontractors, and clients. Work includes drilled shafts/piers, direct embeds, rebar and anchor bolt installation, concrete placement, quality control, and project documentation. The position requires 100% travel throughout Texas and surrounding states and reports to the Superintendent / Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Manage, direct, and supervise a crew of approximately 5 - 8 full-time employees on transmission foundation projects.
  • Plan and oversee daily operations including drilled shafts/piers, direct embed bases, drilling, casing or slurry conditions, rebar cage and anchor bolt/template installation, concrete placement, backfilling, and site restoration.
  • Lead daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA) meetings, enforce safety standards, stop work for unsafe conditions, and ensure compliance with OSHA, company, customer, and utility requirements - including electrical clearances and protocols when working near existing or potentially energized transmission infrastructure.
  • Review drawings and specifications; confirm foundation locations, depths, elevations, alignment, and materials; coordinate equipment, materials, deliveries, and work sequencing.
  • Perform quality checks and complete required documentation (JSAs, daily reports, time records, drill logs, photos, as-builts).
  • Coach and mentor crew members; monitor performance, attendance, and conduct; provide recommendations on hiring, promotion, discipline, and other employment actions.
  • Communicate regularly with supervision, project managers, customers, inspectors, and utility representatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction with a proven track record in a supervisory or leadership role; strong preference for experience on transmission line or high-voltage foundation projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in deep pier foundation construction (drilling operations, slurry processing, temporary/permanent casing installation, and concrete placement for large-diameter drilled shafts) and experience leading stub angle installation and setting poles.
  • Proven ability to manage a field crew, equipment, logistics, and work in constrained or remote rights-of-way typical of transmission projects.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, planning, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage schedules, resources, and multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of transmission foundation methods, drawings/blueprints, tools, equipment, and safety regulations - including working safely around high-voltage transmission infrastructure.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with crews, supervision, customers, inspectors, utility representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook, Word, Adobe) and ability to use a phone, iPad, or company systems for timekeeping, photos, JSAs, and project documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 100%.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen.
Preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • High school diploma or GED
  • OSHA 30-hour certification (active and maintained); additional electrical safety or utility-related training a plus.
  • Experience with transmission line foundations, direct embed bases, drilled shafts, stub angles, substation foundations, or related utility infrastructure.
