This position is for 30 hours per week with paid medical benefits. This position is located on the main campus at The University of Texas at Austin. It requires flexible hours that may include weekends, evenings or, early morning.
Responsibilities
- Assist department faculty but primarily the Transmedia Area faculty in utilizing video, audio, lighting, virtual reality, augmented reality, motion tracking and other most in-demand technologies and methods.
- Design, carry out and troubleshoot technical research in the areas of production and postproduction of time-based media environment.
- Perform work requiring invention, imagination, originality, or talent in a recognized field of artistic or creative endeavor relevant to the Transmedia Area and associated duties.
- Perform administrative functions directly related to academic instruction or training in educational Transmedia establishment, including managing the inventory and making purchases as needed and with guidance from the faculty. Managing expense spreadsheets.
- Design, develop, document, analyze, create, test or modify computer systems or programs, including prototypes, based on and related to Transmedia user or system design specifications as assigned by Transmedia Area faculty and in consultation with COFA IT for compliance.
- Work with the application of systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with Transmedia users and COFA IT, to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications relevant to the Transmedia Area and associated duties.
- Deploy and maintain system protocols to ensure security of student data and comply with Information of Security Office guidelines.
- Combination of these duties that require the same or new skills as related to evolving Transmedia Area objectives
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma with four years of relevant experience.
- Experience working in a moving image laboratory, with data analysis, testing procedures, adjusting, calibrating, and ensuring the effective functioning of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Experience working with AV installation, operating and troubleshooting experience including adaptability to technology and market trends through technology integration, design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing or modification. Familiarity with multi-format and multiscreen video and audio recording, playback, storage management, streaming and transcoding.
- Demonstrates an ability to read, write and follow technical procedures. Proficiency with Macintosh, Windows, Linux-based and iOS devices. Also, Python programming as needed.
- Ability to work within a broad university population especially Transmedia Area faculty, students, and staff.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Media Technology or related. Master’s degree in Media Technology.
- A minimum of 3 years experience working in a moving image laboratory, with data analysis, testing procedures, adjusting, calibrating, and ensuring the effective functioning of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- A minimum of 3 years experience working with AV installation, operating and troubleshooting experience including adaptability to technology and market trends through technology integration, design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing or modification. Familiarity with multi-format and multiscreen video and audio recording, playback, storage management, streaming and transcoding.
Salary Range
$33,800 based on a 30-hour work week
Working Conditions
Working conditions involve employment in a basic studio art laboratory that utilizes modern time-based audio and video facilities.

Work Shift
Monday through Thursday 8am to 3:30pm.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
