Job summary

Lhoist North America is seeking a Slurry Plant Operator in Texas to safely transfer and process bulk materials, operate slurry systems and heavy equipment, and perform routine maintenance. This role demands mechanical aptitude, the ability to work in harsh industrial environments, and a commitment to reliability and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Must be capable of operating small pieces of mobile and stationary equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety procedures and policies according to regulations.
  • Complete safety pre-shift, equipment PMs, daily and monthly reports on time.
  • Report potential operational or safety issues to supervision.
  • Perform work neatly and in accordance with safety rules.
  • General cleanup in all plant areas.
  • Lift 50–100+ pounds as needed.
  • Operate front-end loader and other equipment for cleanup.
  • Lubricate and perform minor repairs on conveying equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on all equipment.
  • Assist maintenance in filling vacancies and routine duties.
  • Transfer bulk materials between railcars, trucks, and silos; mix lime and water.
  • Connect hoses, valves, pumps, conveyors, grounding equipment; operate forklifts and skid steers.
  • Enforce track safety rules (lockout/tagout, blue flags, railcar chocking).

Position Summary

The Slurry Plant Operator is responsible for safely transferring and processing bulk materials, operating slurry systems and heavy equipment, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring compliance with all safety and operational procedures. This hands‑on role requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work in demanding industrial environments and varying weather conditions, and a commitment to reliability, teamwork, and customer service.

Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Follow Company’s safety procedures and policies according to safety regulations.
  • Ensure all appropriate paperwork (Safety pre-shift, equipment PM's, daily reports, monthly reports) are accurate and turned in in a timely manner.
  • Report any potential operational or safety problems to supervision.
  • Perform all work assigned in a neat and orderly manner, strictly adhering to Company and governmental safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform general clean up in all operational areas of the plant.
  • Perform repetitive lifting of 50-100 or more pounds when necessary.
  • Operate front‑end loader and other equipment for clean‑up work.
  • Lubrication and minor repairs of conveying and other equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on all equipment.
  • Assist maintenance and other personnel in filling vacancies to perform routine duties.
  • Safely transfer bulk materials (dry goods) between railcars, tanker trucks, and storage silos. Mix lime and water at proper ratios and operate slurry equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Connect hoses, valves, pumps, conveyors, and grounding equipment. Operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, skid steers, and frontend loaders.
  • Enforce strict track safety rules (e.g., proper lockout/tagout, blue flags, and railcar chocking).

  • Extremely dependable. The time‑sensitive nature of the position requires excellent attendance and complete customer focus.
  • Work shift work, seven days a week including holidays, and be flexible to schedule changes, including overtime.
  • Strong compliance and safety orientation.
  • Must be capable of performing the essential job duties required of this position.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with supervisors and peers.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Must be capable of working up to seven days a week, and 12 – 14‑hour days.
  • High school diploma, GED equivalent, or demonstrated skills or ability.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Must be capable of operating small pieces of mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Must be receptive to overtime.
  • Must be capable of working in dust‑laden areas with provided safety protection.
  • Must be able to work outside in severe weather conditions.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot different scenarios throughout the day.
  • Knowledge of welding and cutting.
Physical Demands
  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise, and dust.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Lift over 50 pounds.
  • Work shift work, seven days a week including holidays and being flexible to schedule changes, including overtime.
Required Experience

Minimum 1‑year heavy rail transloading industrial experience required. 2+ years’ experience preferred.

Required Education

HS/GED diploma.
