Overview

The Translator provides translation services for individuals with language barriers. Translation may cover Education, Legal, Medical, Environmental, and Social Services, among others. This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.

Responsibilities

• Accurately translate lectures, conversations, meetings, medical, and legal material.
• Remain HIPAA compliant when interpreting or translating in a healthcare setting.
• Abide by the client’s policies.
• Abide by the American Translators Association Code of Ethics.
• Render a complete and accurate translation without altering, omitting, or adding anything to what is stated or written, and without explanation.
• Be sensitive to the culture of the original and target languages during the translation process.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent in years of experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of related experience.
• Certified Translation Professional.
• Translation Certifications.
• Certifications from a previous agency or accreditation from a translation program.
• Must be fluent in English.
• Must be fluent in Cantonese.
• Must be able to pass a background check. Additional background checks may be required by projects or clients at any time during employment.

Minimum Skills Required

• Ability to facilitate translation with discretion and impartiality.
• Proficiency in written communication.
• Broad knowledge across a variety of topics.
• Cultural awareness when translating for different regions.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft and Adobe toolsets (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• For Medical Translation: medical interpreter certificate from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters or the National Certification for Medical Interpreters.
• 2 years of Legal translation experience.
• 2 years of Medical translation experience.
• American Translators Association Certification.
• Court-certified translator certificate.

Deputy Program Manager

Working Conditions

• Professional remote environment.
• On-call availability; translator will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods.
• Ability to use a computer and office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet job demands.
• Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
• Must be able to sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen.
• May be required to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and hours outside of normal business hours.
