Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (Pathways to Adult Living) in Sayreville, NJ seeks a Transitional Coordinator / Job Coach for a ten-month position starting September 1, 2026, pending clearance. Job description

Pathways to Adult Living Program (PAL) - a comprehensive transition program for students 18‑21 who have completed high school graduation requirements but need additional support to prepare for independent adult living. The program focuses on daily living skills, community‑based instruction, and work‑based learning, all with the goal of facilitating independence.

Position: Transitional Coordinator / Job Coach – Ten‑Month Position

School/Program: The Educational Services Commission of New Jersey – Pathways to Adult Living

Start Date: September 1, 2026 (Pending Criminal History Clearance)

Requirements:

  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
  • Must obtain CDL within 3 months of employment.
  • Teacher certification or certification and/or experience in related area.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of special education code as it relates to transition activities, ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and DOL child labor laws.
  • Knowledge of local and state agencies that support the transition process (e.g., DVRS, DDD, SSI).
  • Highly qualified in job coaching special‑needs students in community and/or vocational settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students and employers.
  • Experience collaborating with agencies, parents/guardians, and districts.
  • Demonstrated attitude for successful completion of tasks assigned.
  • Other alternatives as determined appropriate by the Commission.

Scope: Reports to building‑level principal/administrator or superintendent’s designee.

Terms of Employment: Full‑time position. Salary to be established by the ESCNJ Board of Directors.

Performance Responsibilities
Instruction
  • Design and implement travel training for students with disabilities.
  • Outreach to local business communities to provide work‑based learning, including career tours, group or individual internship and employment for students with disabilities.
  • Ensure that eligible students are provided with an ongoing community‑based vocational program.
  • Work with the building principal/administrator, the student’s teacher(s), and members of the school community to assess the vocational needs and the physical and learning capabilities of students requiring community‑based vocational placements.
  • Meet with each assigned student on a regularly scheduled basis for job coaching.
  • Obtain contacts and work sites in the community necessary for vocational instruction through procedures established by the ESCNJ.
  • Assess, on a continuous basis, student strengths and weaknesses, and provide appropriate activities to meet student needs.
  • File written progress reports on each assigned student with the ESCNJ building‑level principal and/or administrator and the sending district.
Student Management
  • Facilitate a positive and orderly learning environment for the assigned student.
  • Maintain and file required reports and records such as attendance reports and case evaluation.
Instructional Planning
  • Coordinate an instructional program for each assigned student receiving community‑based program, with advice of the student’s regular teacher(s).
  • Coordinate with the student’s teacher(s) and appropriate district personnel the ongoing evaluation of the student, including providing grades when appropriate.
Professional Development
  • Remain informed of educational trends and new methods in vocational education, identifying opportunities for adaptation to the particular needs of students.
School/Community Relations
  • Work cooperatively with the parents/guardians of students to implement the appropriate instructional program.
  • Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher of students having job coaching/vocational training.
  • Properly complete all required materials from work sites.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the ESCNJ building‑level principal/administrator or superintendent’s designee.
