Job description

Transition Consultant, Pension Risk Transfer

Pension Risk Transfer Operations

Full-Time (Hybrid Office – Springfield, MA)

The Opportunity

As a Transition Consultant in Pension Risk Transfer (PRT), you will play a central role in helping plan sponsors successfully transition pension obligations to MassMutual. You will lead the installation of newly sold PRT contracts from point of sale through implementation, ensuring a seamless experience for clients, intermediaries, and annuitants while protecting MassMutual’s reputation for operational excellence.

This is a highly visible role for a candidate who combines client leadership, project management discipline, and deep pension knowledge. You will work across legal, actuarial, operations, call center, product filing, and data partners to move complex transactions forward, solve issues quickly, and deliver on critical timelines in a fast‑paced, growing business.

The Team

The PRT New Business Team is responsible for supporting the successful onboarding and execution of new PRT business. The group plays a critical role in managing the end‑to‑end new business lifecycle—from deal close through implementation—ensuring accuracy, readiness, and a seamless transition into ongoing operations.

The team works cross‑functionally with partners in pricing, legal, enforcement administration, and technology to ensure new cases are set up correctly, complex requirements are addressed, and operational processes are executed efficiently. Their work often includes coordinating data readiness, resolving issues, supporting system configuration, and driving process improvements to enhance scalability in a growing business.

The Impact
  • Lead end‑to‑end implementation of newly sold PRT contracts, serving as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders throughout the transition.

  • Create and manage project plans, drive key milestones, and proactively identify and resolve risks to keep implementations on track.

  • Partner with plan sponsors, intermediaries, legal, actuarial, operations, and data specialists to coordinate deliverables and ensure an exceptional client experience.

  • Review complex pension provisions, support contract and certificate development, and help resolve issues affecting participant populations, benefits, and contract terms.

  • Guide conversations on non‑standard benefits and implementation issues, balancing client needs, operational feasibility, and compliance requirements.

  • Coordinate critical implementation outputs, including communications, welcome materials, certificates, and documentation required for state filings and post‑installation support.

The Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma

  • 5+ years of experience in a client‑facing, relationship management, or customer service role.

  • 3+ years of experience leading or coordinating projects, implementations, onboarding activities, or other complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.

  • 3+ years of experience in Pension Risk Transfer, defined benefit pensions, retirement operations, benefits administration, or implementation of complex operational programs.

The Ideal Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years of experience in project leadership, pension implementation, operations, or related environment.

  • 5+ years of experience in Pension Risk Transfer or defined benefit pensions, including exposure to complex plan provisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and in meetings with a range of stakeholders.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage complex documentation and deliverables accurately.

  • Experience leading cross‑functional meetings and coordinating work across multiple business partners.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust quickly as business needs evolve.

  • Experience drafting, reviewing, or coordinating pension contracts, certificates, or implementation‑related communications.

  • Comfort navigating complex client situations, negotiating solutions, and influencing outcomes across a matrixed environment.

  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to assess issues holistically and recommend practical solutions.

  • Experience in financial services, insurance, retirement administration, or another highly regulated environment.
