Job summary

Transit in Albuquerque seeks a Service Technician to clean, service and perform minor maintenance on a fleet of gasoline and diesel vehicles; you will also maintain vehicle service records and support the shop with general maintenance tasks.

This safety-sensitive role requires a valid New Mexico driver's license, COP and CDL-B with P endorsement within six weeks, plus ability to lift and work in a busy transit yard; training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; vocational training or experience preferred.
  • CDL-B with P endorsement or the ability to obtain within six weeks of hire.
  • Valid NM driver’s license and COP required.
  • General mechanical maintenance experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Service, clean and perform minor maintenance, repairs and adjustments on a variety of gasoline and diesel automobiles and related vehicles.
  • Operate and transport vehicles within department operations and drive through bus wash.
  • Maintain records of fuel, oils, coolant, mileage and other maintenance data.
  • Inspect vehicles for damage and move them to maintenance bays or fueling areas as required.
  • Check and adjust fluid levels to ensure proper operating conditions.
  • Fuel, lubricate and replenish equipment per maintenance intervals.
  • Assist in custodial duties and shop area maintenance.
  • Connect electric vehicles to charging stations and monitor charging.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Assist in general maintenance and cleaning of automotive shop area.

Job description

Service, clean and perform minor maintenance on motor vehicles in support of mechanics; clean and maintain work area and maintain vehicle service records and perform a variety of other tasks related to area of assignment.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essentialfunctions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Mustbe able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation.

  1. Service, clean and perform minor maintenance, repairs and adjustments on a variety of gasoline and diesel automobiles, motor coaches and alternative-fueled vehicles.
  2. Operate a variety of motor vehicles and motor coaches; transport motor vehicle and coaches to and from any location within assigned department operations; drive through the bus wash.
  3. Maintain records of fuel, different types of oils, coolant, vehicle mileage, charging data and other maintenance records as appropriate.
  4. Inspect vehicles for damage and defects; move vehicles into maintenance bays, fueling stations, battery charging stations or parking areas as required.
  5. Check and adjust vehicle fluid levels to ensure proper operating levels.
  6. Fuel, check and replenish lubricates, automotive, motor coach and paratransit equipmentat appropriate maintenance interval.
  7. Perform custodial duties and assist building maintenance stafffor all transit facilities.
  8. Connect electric vehicle to charging stations and start the charging process.
  9. Verify and monitor charging process and disconnect the charging connectors upon completion of charge.
  10. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assist in general maintenance and cleaning of automotive shop area.
  2. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

High School Diploma or GED

(30) credit hours vocational training in mechanical repair or general mechanical maintenance experience is preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire into position.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class B with a Passenger (P) endorsement within a six (6) week period from completion of City training.
  • Must be able to maintain CDL once obtained.
  • Must successfully complete Maintenance training.
  • Must provide a current driving record.
Environmental:

Shop environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, cleaning chemicals and heavy construction equipment. Exposure to outdoor elements such as sun, rain, snow, wind etc.

Physical:

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light to heavy lifting and carrying; bending; stooping,; kneeling; crawling; standing for prolonged periods; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
