Job summary

North Central Regional Transit District is seeking a Transit Security Officer I to enforce rules, patrol NCRTD facilities and vehicles, ensure passenger safety, and deliver a safe, courteous experience.

Under supervision, you conduct security checks, write incident reports, monitor CCTV, and assist riders. Requirements include high school diploma or GED, two years in security, NM driver’s license, NM Level 1 Security Guard License, and CPR/First Aid.

Qualifications

  • Two years of security experience required.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver’s License maintained throughout employment.
  • NM Level 1 Security Guard License within 12 months of employment.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol NCRTD property and vehicles; report unauthorized entry and security issues.
  • Plan and conduct security checks at shifts’ start, during, and end; perimeter and safety checks.
  • Report safety concerns and incidents; summon medical assistance as appropriate.
  • Write incident reports for security events; maintain duty logs and records.
  • Monitor CCTV systems; provide friendly, bilingual assistance to riders when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under immediate supervision, performs security enforcement services for the North Central Regional Transit District through enforcement of transit-related rules and policies; fulfills the safety needs of transit passengers; provides a safe and comfortable customer experience; provides onsite patrols of the NCRTD property and vehicles; and performs related work as required.

  • Patrols and reports unauthorized persons either on the property or observed attempting to enter the facility by means other than through the appropriate gated entrances upon alert provided by District personnel.
  • Plans and conducts security checks of assigned work location(s) as needed and at the beginning, end, and throughout the course of each shift; includes perimeter check, fencing, lighting, equipment, doors, facilities, property, and overall safety and security.
  • Reports any safety concerns and confrontations or security-related issues immediately; summons medical assistance as appropriate.
  • Reports potentially hazardous conditions and/or dangerous situations that affect District facilities and grounds; identifies items in need of repair; documents with written reports and log entries.
  • Writes incident reports for actions of intrusion, fire, theft, vandalism, disruptive behavior, criminal behavior, emergency assistance, security violations, potentially hazardous conditions, and surveillance of suspicious activity; takes appropriate action to address issues.
  • Maintains written records and reports of all performed security checks and a duty log of activities or incidents that require action at a District station or post; ensures all reports and documents are written clearly, legibly, and accurately.
  • Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations on incidents or complaints as assigned by management.
  • Provides security during special events and emergency situations to protect facilities, employees, properties, and visitors.
  • Monitors CCTV systems at any District sites with cameras as directed.
  • Provides personalized service when appropriate to meet customer needs; offers assistance and solutions and follows through when problems arise; communicates effectively, including seeking bilingual assistance when necessary.
  • Remains calm and shows an understanding for the customer’s situation and notifies supervisor or management personnel when necessary to keep a situation from escalating.
  • Performs courteous, professional, and informative interacting with the public, District personnel, and vendors; provides general information about the District; greets passengers and answers general questions.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

  • Transit Security Officer I: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. required.

Experience:

  • Transit Security Officer I: Two (2) years of experience in security work or a related field.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid New Mexico – Level 1 Security Guard License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 6 months of employment, a valid CPR/First Aid Certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
