Job summary

Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA), formerly the Regional Transportation Authority, seeks a Chief or Director, Transit Safety Officer to lead the Office of Transit Public Safety & Experience. You will drive a regional safety strategy, oversee budgets, and coordinate with CTA, Pace, and Metra along with law enforcement and social services to protect riders and workers across six counties.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Forensic Science, or related field is required.
• Transportation safety certifications preferred.
• 10+ years in public safety and law enforcement for Chief level; 7–10 years for Director level; supervisory experience required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of a regional transit safety strategy with CTA/Pace/Metra and safety council.
• Oversee annual budget, five-year capital program, and safety priorities across Service Boards.
• Establish regionwide safety standards and a technology strategy to promote interoperability.
• Coordinate safety with law enforcement, social services, and emergency management partners.
• Develop protocols for large events, emergencies, and rider safety reporting channels.
