Transit Operations Supervisor — Dispatch & Field Leadership

Job summary

GoTriangle in Durham, NC seeks an experienced transit operations leader to manage on-time bus service, supervise operators, and ensure safe, compliant service delivery. You will coordinate dispatch, field operations, and incident response while directing staff and enforcing policies.

The role requires strong leadership, planning, and communication skills with a focus on safety and reliability across the GoTriangle network, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in Transit Operations or closely related industry (logistics, warehousing, fleet management, scheduling, dispatch, or customer service)
• Two (2) years of leadership and management experience
• Demonstrate proficiency in all bus operator duties
• Six (6) years' driving experience with a clean driving record and ability to drive in adverse weather
• Must have or be able to obtain a Class B CDL with passenger endorsement
• DOT physical requirements and maintenance of DOT card
• Excellent attendance in varied weather
• Strong leadership and decision-making abilities
• Ability to develop objectives and work independently on multiple programs
• Excellent interpersonal skills for communicating with officials and the public
• PC proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for minimums excluding HS diploma/years or certifications

Responsibilities

• Performs management duties in dispatch, radio communications, and field operations.
• Decisions on scheduled bus service and passenger safety; analyze street operations and direct bus operators.
• Resolve day-to-day operating problems including breakdowns, detours, missed trips, and late routes.
• Assign daily regular and extra work; approve irregularities in scheduling and leave requests.
• Enforce GoTriangle policies and conduct disciplinary procedures as needed.
• Supervise, train, counsel, and evaluate bus operators; monitor performance and morale.
• Participate in hiring and coordinate training to fill skill gaps.
• Coaches and mentors staff; manage workflow and project prioritization; measure division performance.
• Oversee daily operation of fixed-route transit; coordinate with police and safety entities.
• Resolve passenger disputes; manage accident scenes and provide guidance to operators and the public.
• Identify improvements to operations and cost efficiencies; collaborate with other departments.
• Support diversity and nondiscrimination goals in employment practices.
