Job summary

City of Joplin, MO is seeking a Transit Driver III for the Public Works Department - MAPS Divisions. This part-time role requires operating transit vehicles, assisting riders, and following a fixed manifest schedule.

Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED and a Class B CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements, plus prior transit driving experience and a clean MVR. A background check, physical exam, and drug test are required.

Qualifications

• Experience: Prior public or passenger transit driving experience, with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR), is required.
• Licenses: For Transit Driver III, possess and maintain a Class B CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Operates public transportation vehicles; provides loading and departure assistance to riders needing personal assistance due to wheeled mobility devices or other disabilities.
• Secures wheeled mobility devices in the vehicle with appropriate equipment and straps for safety after boarding and prior to rider departure.
• Follows daily computerized manifest of scheduled trips when operating vehicles.
• Inspects vehicles at the beginning and conclusion of shifts; cleans and sanitizes the interior of vehicles as needed.
• Accepts fares from riders; accounts for fares received in accordance with City policy.
• Communicates effectively with riders on the vehicle.
• Executes safety plan in accordance with MAPS policy; provides first aid in an emergency.
• Contributes effectively to the Public Works Department, communicates effectively with co-workers, both within the department as well as outside the department. Maintains satisfactory attendance to ensure duties are performed without negatively impacting co-workers or delivery of service to the public.

Part-time position available.

Requires successful post-offer completion of a background investigation, physical exam, and drug test (including marijuana/THC) as a condition of employment with the City of Joplin.

Primary Purpose

Operates a public transit vehicle to transport passengers on specified routes or manifests. Makes pick-ups and drop-offs for riders, including many who may be elderly or disabled.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: Prior public or passenger transit driving experience, with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR), is required.

Licenses and Certifications
